Governor Sarah Palin To Campaign In Georgia For Chambliss

Sarah Palin once again reminds us that she isn’t in politics for herself. She is traveling to Georgia on Sunday to campaign for Senator Saxby Chambliss. This is good news fo Chambliss. Sarah Palin will be able to reach out to people in Geirgia. They will be curious but truly enjoy that she is just one of the folks.

More from CNN:

Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin will make multiple campaign appearances on behalf of Sen. Saxby Chambliss next week in Georgia, serving as the political closer for the GOP senator who is battling to win a second term.

This is Palin’s first campaign appearance on behalf of another Republican candidate since losing her bid to become the nation’s first woman to serve as vice president.

Palin will attend a fundraiser on Sunday night, then appear at multiple campaign stops on Monday in an effort to rally the GOP base to turn out to vote for Chambliss. The incumbent Republican is facing a strong challenge from Democrat Jim Martin. A runoff is scheduled for next Tuesday, after neither candidate received the 50 percent plus one vote needed to win on Election Day.

Governor Sarah Palin is using her star power to attempt to keep Chambliss’ seat from the hands of Martin, a Democrat. The Georgia seat must be retained so the Democrats are stopped from a solid 60 seat lead in the US Senate:

Nick Ayers, executive director of the Republican Governors Association, said that it made sense for Palin to help Chambliss in the days leading into the run-off because he noted that GOP governors are “still very popular in the party.”

“She is going to bring a lot of energy and enthusiasm to this run-off,” said Ayers, a close Palin confidante. “She is widely popular in Georgia, and I could not envision a stronger closer for Saxby in this election.”

More on Palin’s schedule from the Atlanta Journal Constitution:

Palin, who drew large crowds while running for vice president with Republican presidential candidate U.S. Sen. John McCain, will appear at four Chambliss rallies Monday, the day before the Dec. 2 senate runoff between Chambliss and Democrat Jim Martin.

Scheduled times and locations are 8:30 a.m. in Augusta, 11 a.m. in Savannah, 1:30 p.m. in Perry, and 4 p.m. in north metro Atlanta.

The founding fathers meant for there to be checks and balances within the three branches of the government which means Saxby retaining his seat is very important to that system. Since we now have a Democratic president elect and a strong Democratic presence in Congress we the Senate must not be allowed to be filibuster proof.

The Democrats in Congress forget one thing, it requires 60 votes to prevent a filibuster not 60 Democrats. Not all members of a party will vote their party’s way. What the Democrats who are touting there solid 60 seats forget is there is a caucus in Congress, the Blue Dog Coalition, and currently have 49 members, all fiscal conservatives.

Despite the Blue Dog Coalition, it is still important to hold down the power of the Democrats so some amount of checks and balances remain in the three branches of government. For this reason it is important that Governor Sarah Palin complete with her “star power”, lend a hand to Senator Saxby Chambliss so he retains his seat.
