Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) Speaks Out About Obama’s New Civil Service Corps

There has been an overwhelming concern about the president elect’s new national service corp especially since he will exempt nobody including veterans who have given so much already. There are so many questions swirling around. Here are some of those questions: Will I have to give 100 hours just so I can get my social security check? Will I have to do time to get my veterans compensation? Will this involve reeducation in training camps? And these are just three that I have heard in the last week.

Well it seems the folks that didn’t vote for Obama aren’t the only ones asking questions. It seems one very brave man, Rep Paul Broun (R-GA) has spoken the words out loud. Here is what he had to say:

A Republican congressman from Georgia said Monday he fears that President-elect Obama will establish a Gestapo-like security force to impose a Marxist or fascist dictatorship.

“It may sound a bit crazy and off base, but the thing is, he’s the one who proposed this national security force,” Rep. Paul Broun said of Obama in an interview Monday with The Associated Press. “I’m just trying to bring attention to the fact that we may — may not, I hope not — but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism.”

Broun cited a July speech by Obama that has circulated on the Internet in which the then-Democratic presidential candidate called for a civilian force to take some of the national security burden off the military.

The military is not allowed to take any direct action within the borders of the USA involving any kind of security unless it is approved by the Constitution or Congress. In most cases it is expressly forbidden under Posse Comitatus Act (PCA). More on that act:

The primary restriction on military participation in civilian law enforcement activities is the Posse Comitatus Act (PCA).10 The PCA prohibits the use of the Army and Air Force to execute the domestic laws of the United States except where expressly authorized by the Constitution or Congress. The PCA has been further applied to the Navy and Marine Corps by legislative and administrative supplements. For example, 10 U.S.C. §375, directs the Secretary of Defense to promulgate regulations forbidding the direct participation “by a member of the Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marines in a search, seizure, arrest, or other similar activity” during support activities to civilian law enforcement agencies.

With this in mind one has to ask the following question, what does Obama intend to use this security force for?

More from the AP:

… “That’s exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany and it’s exactly what the Soviet Union did,” Broun said. “When he’s proposing to have a national security force that’s answering to him, that is as strong as the U.S. military, he’s showing me signs of being Marxist.”

Obama’s comments about a national security force came during a speech in Colorado about building a new civil service corps. Among other things, he called for expanding the nation’s foreign service and doubling the size of the Peace Corps “to renew our diplomacy.”

“We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set,” Obama said in July. “We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”

Broun said he also believes Obama likely will move to ban gun ownership if he does build a national police force.

Obama has said he respects the Second Amendment right to bear arms and favors “common sense” gun laws. Gun rights advocates interpret that as meaning he’ll at least enact curbs on ownership of assault weapons and concealed weapons. As an Illinois state lawmaker, Obama supported a ban on semiautomatic weapons and tighter restrictions on firearms generally.

“We can’t be lulled into complacency,” Broun said. “You have to remember that Adolf Hitler was elected in a democratic Germany. I’m not comparing him to Adolf Hitler. What I’m saying is there is the potential.”

I believe Broun is warning the US of things to come. He is asking us to keep our eyes open and act when needed. Don’t be complacent as he says, let your elected officials know what you really think. Rep Broun is leading by speaking out. And we should be listening.

  1. I have seen a lot of editorials making Paul Broun out to be a lunatic. The truth is that his words do sound crazy. What is really scary is that Broun is correct. We don’t know much about Obama or his intentions. People were treated like they were crazy when they warned about Hitler too.

  2. This man would not pass the security check for the FBI but is being given all security information as a President-elect. You are correct with your facts concerning Russia and Germany.
What can we do to avoid this happening in America?
Keep us posted and keep up your vigilance on the situation. Anxious!!!
    Help us keep America free.

  3. You’d think a Constitutional proffessor would know better, but then he does, but the government and the Supreams routinely egnore the Constitution don’t they.
