Sarkozy Calls Obama’s Stance on Iran “Utterly Immature”

French President Sarkozy finally gets it, Obama’s view of Iran is “utterly immature”. Absolutely incredible. The MSM has us believing that all heads of state worldwide look at Obama favorably. Well it just isn’t true. And I have long suspected that some world leaders have long held the view that Obama’s stance on meeting with Ahminedjad, the Castro brothers and others without preconditions was scary. I believed that they would view it as dangerous to the world as a whole.

Haaretz.com has the following story, “Sources: Sarkozy views Obama stance on Iran as ‘utterly immature’ “ which highlights Sarkozy’s private thoughts.

Here are excerpts from the article:

French President Nicolas Sarkozy is very critical of U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama’s positions on Iran, according to reports that have reached Israel’s government.

Sarkozy has made his criticisms only in closed forums in France. But according to a senior Israeli government source, the reports reaching Israel indicate that Sarkozy views the Democratic candidate’s stance on Iran as “utterly immature” and comprised of “formulations empty of all content.”

I love that phrase “empty of all content”. It definitely fits with the description of Obama that still plays in certain circles … “an empty suit“.

Until now, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany have tried to maintain a united front on Iran. But according to the senior Israeli source, Sarkozy fears that Obama might “arrogantly” ignore the other members of this front and open a direct dialogue with Iran without preconditions.

Following their July meeting, Sarkozy repeatedly expressed disappointment with Obama’s positions on Iran, concluding that they were “not crystallized, and therefore many issues remain open,” the Israeli source said. Advisors to the French president who held separate meetings with Obama’s advisors came away with similar impressions and expressed similar disappointment.

Disappointed is mild. Why don’t they say what they really think? Obama is an empty suit on foreign policy. And Biden on the ticket has done nothing to allay the fears of the 5 permanent members of the
UN Security Council.

But Sarkozy’s pessimism does not stem only from Obama’s stance; it also stems from the overall behavior of the international community toward Iran’s nuclear program, and particularly its inability to agree on a fourth round of Security Council sanctions against the Islamic Republic. This foot-dragging will make it impossible to effect a change in Iran’s nuclear policy, Sarkozy believes.

I am no foreign policy wonk but if I were Sarkozy I would be worried about an Obama administration. Remember his response to the Georgia-Russia conflict. Here is that response:

“I strongly condemn the outbreak of violence in Georgia, and urge an immediate end to armed conflict. Now is the time for Georgia and Russia to show restraint, and to avoid an escalation to full scale war. Georgia’s territorial integrity must be respected. All sides should enter into direct talks on behalf of stability in Georgia, and the United States, the United Nations Security Council, and the international community should fully support a peaceful resolution to this crisis.”

There is more about this article from Ed Morrissey at Hot Air:

Can anyone blame him? Europe does not want direct presidential-level negotiations with Iran — they want the mullahcracy isolated. They need American strength behind that position in order to wring concessions from the ruling Guardian Council. With the price of oil plummeting over the past two months, the economic sanctions on Iran finally have a chance to bite the mullahs hard. Obama’s stated policy would undo everything just at the moment that it has a chance of producing real change.

In fact, Sarkozy believes that Obama would wind up being more unilateral than George Bush in his foreign policy. When a French politician uses the word “arrogant” as an accusation, that means something. Apparently, their brief meeting during the Obama World Tour did not set Sarkozy’s mind at ease. He saw something that makes him extremely uneasy with Obama in charge of American diplomacy.

Thanks Ed. I think if most people would stop worrying about the financial crisis for a minute and think about Obama diplomacy, they would vote for McCain when they hit the voting booth.

Our military is spread thin. We are involved in two wars as well as our peacekeeping duties. An Obama diplomacy would put us right smack in the bulls eye of all tyrannical and terroristic governments in this world. It would leave us vulnerable. And we certainly don’t need a “Red Dawn” or a WWIII.
